Bacon celebrates new years

January 1, 2011 by

Bacon was very excited to go out with us to celebrate the new year.  It was a tad overwhelming for him, though.  He discovered that one can be simultaneously adored and unappreciated all in the same evening.  (Note: I am discovering I do not like my pocket camera.  The pictures come out really washed out looking, no matter what setting I put it on.  My husband says it’s a user error but, until he embraces all future Bacon photography or buys me a better pocket camera, I maintain that it’s a camera error.  So I apologize for the photos not being fantastic. )

We all went out with friends Chris and Colleen.  Chris and Bacon talked beer brewing before we left.

Then we started the night at Mad Fox Brewing Company in Falls Church.  Bacon was an instant celebrity.  He wasn’t even offended when the hostess asked if he was a peppermint stick.  “I’m Bacon!” Bacon exclaimed excitedly.

Bacon enjoyed his own glass of Kölsch and a homemade soft pretzel.  He even had a high chair to sit in so he could participate in the conversation.  He loved the Kölsch’s light, easy drinkability.  Another favorite was the wheat beer.  Smooth, unfiltered, malty and not hoppy.  Bacon does love beer.

Bill, the brewer, even came out and took a picture with Bacon!  With Bacony items!  But, alas, I am having technical difficulties with that picture at the moment.  Bill is also a fan of Bacon, and Bacon was honored to meet a fellow fan.

Everyone in the restaurant liked Bacon and he got quite a few looks and even some photographs by others!  He didn’t want to leave.

Bacon found some new friends at the bar.  He tried to stay with them for the evening but I told him I already had a ticket for him at the club and he should really stay with us.

Bacon even got to learn to pour beer!  He was SO EXCITED!  “I’m Bacon!” he yelled!

Bacon was totally feeling the love at Mad Fox.  He will definitely be enjoying beer and pretzels there again.

While Bacon was reluctant to leave the welcoming atmosphere of Mad Fox, he was excited to ride the Metro for the first time.  He bought his fare card.  Luckily Bacon can jump.

Bacon waited patiently for a Metro train.

It was standing room only on the train….

But this couple thought he was endearing and shared their seat with him!  Bacon was really digging all this attention.

Bacon found a best friend in Colleen, though!

An open seat!  Finally!  Bacon found it wonderful that the guys who boarded the train at the next stop walked to this seat, saw Bacon in it and then decided not to move Bacon.  They looked around and then stood next to him.  Bacon realized he had the status of women and children.  Men give up seats for him!

Then there was Camera FAIL in DC when the battery decided to die.  Not to be deterred from his adventures, Bacon insisted on visiting the police booth at Union Station to have his picture taken with his iphone.  The policeman was amused and asked his fellows (who jumped out of the picture) “Why do I always get roped into this?”  Bacon wondered how many pictures the policeman had taken with other Bacons.

A statue grabbed Bacon!  Terrified, he struggled desperately.  Being fatty has its perks, Bacon’s greasiness finally allowed him to slip from the evil statue’s grasp.

Bacon’s last encounter with a friendly person.  The cab driver thought Bacon was a little odd, but okay.Above: Bacon enjoyed a Stoli Vanilla and Coke.  He also got to see the sound equipment.  He couldn’t understand why the man handled him like a lump of disgusting lard.  And why the people around him, including the bar tender, were looking at him like he was a freak.  He did NOT have a good experience at Rock ‘n Roll Hotel.  The bouncers were rude and pushy, the bartender was unfriendly and the sound guy had a negative sense of humor.   Bacon did attempt to crowdsurf.  And he danced a bit before the Bacon prejudice got to him and he retreated to the coat check.     The coat check girl thought he was pretty cool.

Bacon headed over to U Street Music Hall where he knew he would be greeted with a warmer reception.  However, the line was too long, even though he had a Will Call ticket.  Checking his iphone for the nearest Metro Stop, Bacon decided to head home around 2am.  He had a fantastic evening and was thrilled to be able to club in DC to bring in the New Year.  It definitely won’t be the last time this hunk of fatty meat parties it up in DC.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I love bacon. Daniel says to tell you “She really needs to get out more”. I think what he’s REALLY trying to tell you is Bacon needs more adventures. The fact that he said it while sadly shaking his head should be discounted…

Tell Daniel my sister said the same thing. But I fail to see how I “need to get out more” if BACON is the proof that I *am* getting out! heehee

Proof is in the picture. You get out just fine. Really its Bacon I worry about….We could be a bad influence on him. Cant wait to take him to Carpool. Hey I could even take him to Starbucks one day.

Bacon is cute. Is he dating anyone? I know a nice slab who might be interested in taking him out. And she’s no porker either.

Bacon feels he isn’t too interested in dating quite yet. But he might be in the future. His standards aren’t hight- he just wants someone who has eyes and can talk and occasionally likes long walks on the beach.
